Queen Elizabeth II visit to Germany with a stop at the Bergen-Belsen
Queen Elizabeth II concluded her four-day state visit to Germany with a stop at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp memorial.
During her visit to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp memorial, Queen Elizabeth II took her time speaking with survivors and appeared visibly moved. She was also shown a tablet app by students that demonstrated what the camp once looked like. The Queen was accompanied by Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister, Stephan Weil, and was guided by the memorial’s director, Jens-Christian Wagner.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip stood in front of a memorial inscribed with a powerful message, remembering the 30,000 Jews who perished at Bergen-Belsen. The memorial was erected by the British branch of the Central Jewish Committee a year after the camp’s liberation. The royal couple appeared deeply touched by the visit, with Prince Philip engaging in thoughtful conversation with the memorial director.
